Data Bureau (Tonga) Limited began operations in June 2011, with its founding bank members, namely: Westpac, ANZ, Tonga Development Bank and MBf.
The financial industry saw the need of a credit information system to enable them to make informed decisions and aid fact based risk management. Data Bureau’s credit information system was an ideal choice, due to its flexibility and is cost effective that made it suitable for any country, in this case, it was adopted by Papua New Guinea in 2009 and has been running successfully ever since.
Even though Tonga has a small population, it still has similar problems faced by every country in terms of credit risk management. The presence of the Credit Bureau in Tonga will uplift their consumers’ behavior when it comes to managing their finances.
